We’re lucky that our friend Jeremy on and off passes Flensburg and plays a little with us. Jeremy asked me for a TAB of “Needlecase.”
I think I learned that tune from someone at the Danish Old-Time & Bluegass Convention in Silkeborg in the early 1980s. Anyway, I love it, and I have had fun playing it with Danish fiddler Ole Rossel at Kattingeværk many times – way back then.
Here you have a short demo up-tempo, and a slowly played bare bones version, which I think you should spend time with until you can play it by heart – up-tempo. Then there’s a full version which renders the tune somehow like I like to play it. There are a couple of Galax Licks and some syncopated pull-offs. The ‘!’ in the TAB represents some percussive brushes. As I said above. First learn the bare bones version. Then you can probably improvise your way through the full-version.
